St. John the Baptist is proud to be accreditated by the following:

Western Catholic Education Association

The Western Catholic Educational Association is a private educational accrediting agency established under the auspices of the Bishops of the Catholic (Arch) Dioceses of California.

The Mission of WCEA is to maintain and improve the quality of elementary and secondary Catholic schools as educational environments that assist students in their faith formation and academic needs.

The major purpose of this agency is to coordinate the accreditation process by assisting schools in their self-evaluative programs, to establish general standards for excellence, to grant WCEA Accreditation, and to cooperate formally with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and other accrediting organizations as determined by the WCEA Board of Directors. In California and Hawaii, WASC (Western Association of Schools & Colleges) co-accredits the school together with WCEA.

Western Association of Schools and Colleges

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is one of six regional associations that accredit public and private schools, colleges, and universities in the United States. The Western region covers institutions in California and Hawaii, the territories of Guam, American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, the Pacific Basin, and East Asia, and areas of the Pacific and East Asia where American/International schools or colleges may apply to it for service.

St. John's was last visited on February 14-16, 2006 by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges for the seventh time in its forty-seven year history. In early August 2006, Sr. Vianney received the letter confirming that St. John's had received, for the seventh straight visit, the highest term of accreditation possible ("six years, clear"). And this in a time when less than twenty percent of schools receive such a term.

Something good is happening at St. John's. This has been objectively confirmed again and again by the national agency designed to make that judgment. We celebrate the dedicated teachers, staff and students who make excellence at St. John's a daily reality. We also say a special "thank you" to Principal Paula Viles, chairperson, and the other members of St. John's WASC steering committee.
